For Bacardi, it’s good to be among the top tourist attractions in the Caribbean. The commute to their rum factory is now serviced by a high end ferry boat.
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO – Puerto Rico is adding a new ferry for the first time in nearly two decades to the route that runs from Old San Juan to Catano, site of the island’s famous Bacardi rum factory.
The launch of the air-conditioned boat that can carry 149 passengers comes at the start of the high tourist season for the U.S. Caribbean territory.
Maritime Transport Authority spokeswoman Acela Soler says the $3.1 million ferry named “The Princess” began operating on Saturday. It joins six other ferries that serve an average of 4,600 passengers a day.
Officials also expect to open a $22.5 million ferry terminal in Catano by 2012.
