Three Little Birds

It’s Friday and there’s no better day for a Bob Marley inspired cocktail. This one is fruity, tropical and filled with wonderful Jamaican rum. Enjoy!

Rise up this mornin’, smiled with the risin’ sun,
Three little birds, pitch by my doorstep
Singin’ sweet songs, of melodies pure and true,
Sayin’, “This is my message to you-ou-ou”

Singin’: “Don’t worry ’bout a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right.”
Singin’: “Don’t worry (don’t worry) ’bout a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right!”

Bob Marley and the Wailers – 1977

Three Little Birds is one of Bob Marley’s most popular songs, but it was originally published as a b-side track on the hit album Exodus in 1977.  It wasn’t until it was released as a single in 1980 that it got the respect it deserves, charting in the US and in the UK.

The Three Little Birds cocktail is another drink created by Adam Kanter for the annual Bob Marley celebration at Rum Bar in Philadelphia.  It is a sweet, tropical cooler that highlights three Jamaican rums, lime, pineapple and passionfruit syrup.  As the song goes, “Don’t worry about a thing” one sip and your Friday “is gonna be all right.”  Enjoy!

1/2 oz Appleton V/X
1/2 oz Appleton White
1/2 oz Myers Dark
1 oz Lime Juice
1 oz Passionfruit Syrup
3 oz Pineapple Juice

Instructions:  Shake all ingredients and strain into an ice-filled glass.  Garnish with a lime wedge.  Now, crank up the tunes and get the weekend started early.  Cheers!!
