2012 CAB Rum Tasting Competition: Expert rum judges heading to Grenada.
The lineup of expert rum judges for the 2012 CAB Rum Tasting Competition has been announced. Ten international rum aficionados will be jetting into the ‘Spice Isle’ of Grenada to take part in a blind tasting contest as part of the 3rd annual Caribbean Rum & Beer Festival hosted on November 2nd and 3rd, 2012.
The rum panel will consist of experienced rum professionals considered as key industry influencers. The judges are recognised within the rum industry and the rum blogosphere. The line up includes:

Robert Burr - Rob’s Rum Guide / Rum Examiner
Dave Russell - Rum Gallery
Steve Bennett - Uncommon Caribbean
Nicholas Feris - Rum Collective
Carl Kanto – Rum industry professional
Lisette Davis – Rum Boat Retreat
Luis Ayala – ‘Got Rum?’ Magazine editor
Margaret Ayala - ‘Got Rum?’ Magazine editor
John Gibbons – Glasgow Rum Club
Festival Manager Ms. Cheryl Collymore explained “When we announced that Grenada was to be the host country for 2012 we were overwhelmed by the response from rum experts wanting to be included on the rum panel. We are exceptionally pleased with the final line up of rum judges and believe that rum producers will have every confidence in the outcome of the contest.”
Rum products entered into the blind tasting contest will be judged according to rum categories. The judges will award Gold, Silver and Bronze accolades to the top three rums in each category. The rums will be appraised on four characteristics; Appearance, Aroma, Taste & Overall Impression.
While in Grenada the rum judges will be the guests of the Grenada Hotel and Tourism Association. In conjunction with the Grenada Board of Tourism the judges will be the VIP guests at an evening cocktail reception and will be treated to a tour of the island and visits to Grenada’s local rum distilleries.
