The first-ever Conched in Key West charity bar crawl was a huge success. We visited 9 bars and raised more than $1500. Here’s a look at some of the action.

Drinking for charity can be hard work. Nearly a week has gone by since the Conched in Key West charity bar crawl and I’ve just caught up on my sleep. Our original press release stated, “What started off as a group of friends getting together for some fun in Key West has evolved into an exciting event to raise money for Naval Air families stationed in the area.” That may have been the understatement of the year.
The bar crawl organizing group rolled into town last Thursday and quickly got to work familiarizing themselves with the local bar scene. This type of research is only effective when done late in the night, in the company of very drunk tourists and bikers. By the time that Saturday arrived, our group had gone from a crew of novices to full blown Key West bar scholars. When Conched in Key West kicked off at precisley 2pm on Saturday, everyone was ready to party!
We had some wonderful host bars. A big shout out and thank you goes to Cork & Stogie, Pearl’s Patio, Rum Bar, Overboard, Willie T’s, Virgilio’s, Krawl off Duval, Captain Tony’s and Irish Kevin’s. Over a marathon 12 hour session we visited 9 bars, raised more than $1500 and laughed and partied our way through Key West.
I can’t say enough about my fellow crawl organizers. Team Cocktail, Shawn Martin, Rum Shop Ryan, Hoffman Publishing, Shot Doctor and Conch Republic Bikinis all worked hard making this event happen and my hat is off to you all. Come back to Key West any time for more fun and rum.
