If your idea of a “vacation” is rum drinks and beach bars you need to plan a trip to Belize. While there, check out Mojito Bar for cocktails and island vibes.
Mojito Bar sits directly on the beach in San Pedro, a friendly little island town about 10 miles off the coast of mainland Belize. The atmosphere is very laid back with reggae music on the sound system and a perfect view of the blue-green Caribbean Sea, which is no more than 20 feet off the front steps. The staff, from owner/operator to bartenders and waitstaff, are knowledgable and fun. The food is basic pub grub with an island twist. If you have the time, stick around for their Sunday afternoon BBQ which usually turns into a huge, freaky party.
The rum selection at Mojito Bar is odd, and that’s what we like about it. They have a small and impressive collection which mainly consists of the homegrown Belizean variety. One Barrel, the most common rum in this part of the world, flows like water here. Others on tap include 5 and 10 Barrel (the aged version of One Barrel), Appleton, Zacapa and the entire Caribbean Rum line (a mass produced and very pleasing local label with a variety of flavors.)
As you may have guessed the mojitos at Mojito Bar are awesome and should not be missed. How Carlos, their 24-year old bartender, has mastered this classic drink is beyond me, but check it out and you will keep coming back. In fact, tell them you heard about the place on RumConnection.com and they may hook you up with a free smile and fist-bump.
So, folks, get yourself down to San Pedro with a thirst for rum drinks and relaxation. You may never leave! Cheers!
