Havana Club Rum gears up for its 10th annual Grand Prix Cocktail Competition in Cuba.
Havana Club Rum is inviting bartenders from around the world to enter the tenth edition of its renowned Cocktail Grand Prix in Havana, Cuba. Celebrating the heritage of the city as a ‘cocktail capital’, the competition takes place June 1st-6th, 2014 at Cuba’s legendary Hotel Habana Riviera, where contestants will be challenged to create the next Cuban classic cocktail using Havana Club expressions.
The biennial Havana Club Cocktail Grand Prix has continued to grow in popularity with bartenders from more than 45 different countries taking part in 2014.
The best bartender from each market, plus one wild card entry via Havana Club Grand Prix’s Facebook page, will fly to Havana to immerse themselves in Cuban rum production and cantineros techniques with renowned rum experts. Havana Club’s Maestro Ronero Asbel Morales; celebrated spirits historians, Jared Brown and Anistatia Miller; mixologist Naren Young; plus award-winning spirits writer and rum expert Dave Broom will be some of the connoisseurs on hand to share their knowledge of Cuban culture, Cuban cocktail history, rum production, as well as both classic and modern bartending techniques.
The finalists will be challenged to use their newfound knowledge acquired during their visit to prepare and present the next classic Cuban cocktail to the judging panel. Each final entry will be judged on its appearance, technique and taste by a host of respected industry names including El Floridita’s Alejandro Bolivar; global rum ambassador Ian Burrell; and world-famous mixologist Tony Conigliaro.
The winner of the Havana Club Cocktail Grand Prix 2014 will receive a trophy, a bottle of Havana Club Máximo Extra Añejo, and the opportunity to return to Havana as a judge of the next competition in 2016.
