Calling All Bartenders…

There are ‘cocktail competitions’ and then there are COCKTAIL COMPETITIONS!!!  Appleton Estate Remixology has quickly become one of the biggest and best contests in the country drawing competitors from coast to coast.  Some of the nation’s top bartenders mix up their most original drinks for a chance at a pretty amazing grand prize, an expense paid trip to Jamaica….and serious bragging rights, of course.

In its second year, the Appleton Estate Remixology competition is being met with serious anticipation as the competition is sure to be fierce.  If you’re not familiar with Remixology, here’s the deal, Appleton Estate Rum has challenged mixologists to create a new and original Appleton Rum-based cocktail that is inspired by their favorite song.  Simple, right?  Wrong.  As it turns out, mixologists from a number of the finest cocktail bars in the country participate and create some mind-blowing drinks.  The stakes are high and this is sure to be a battle to the finish, to say the least.  Here’s a quick look at some of the action from the 2010 finals in New York.

John Mayer from Craigie on Main in Boston won a spot to the Remixology Finals with his drink – Opportunity to Live High.  The use of Miller High Life as an ingredient in a rum drink definitely gets our vote for most creative.  Well done, John.

An interesting drink called All That and a Bag of Chips was the creation of Florida Roon bartender, Adam Delgiudice.  Looks like a wonderful drink and his choice for glassware surely makes a statement.

In the end, Brian Miller won the whole thing with the Diver’s Delight, a beautiful combination of Appleton Estate Reserve Rum, Evan Williams Single Barrel, Don’s Gardenia Mix, Orange Juice, Lime Juice and a dash of Angostura Bitters…..his showmanship didn’t hurt either.

  1. All brilliant drinks, but the one utilizing Miller Beer and the bottle it came in takes it.
