The 4th annual Miami Rum Week kicked off with a bang yesterday with rum soaked brand briefings and VIP parties. Here’s what happened…
We made the beautiful drive north from Key West to Miami yesterday, checked into the Deauville Hotel in Miami Beach and immediately got mixed up in all the Rum Renaissance fun. First on the agenda was a VIP rum tasting hosted by Ron Botran. This premium Guatemalan brand has come a long way in just a few years and we were fortunate enough to see what they have in store for the near future. Let’s just say that you won’t be disappointed.
After our formal Botran briefing we made our way to the Broken Shaker Bar at the Indian Creek Hotel. We’ve heard a lot about this little place and we were not disappointed. Botran cocktails flowed freely into the night and we eventually stumbled home exhausted wondering how we would survive a full week of this kind of fun.
The next several days are going to be busy. Today we have a rum tasting with Zacap followed by the Great Rum Challenge and a tour of Caneca Rum Distillery in downtown Miami. Wednesday starts with a breakfast hosted by Panamonte, lunch with Louisiana Spirits, then it’s tiki time at the Mai Kai in Fort Lauderdale. The parties and brand briefing continue through the week along with six judging sessions for the Rum XP Tasting Competition. This is going to be fun, if it doesn’t kill us!!
More soon. Cheers!
