Barritt’s Bermuda Triangle

Miami’s Rum Renaissance Festival is a week of parties, tasting sessions, seminars and cocktail competitions.  Here’s our favorite drink from Rum Ren. 2011.

Bermuda Triangle Cocktail

A very warm and lazy day by the pool at the Deauville Hotel transitioned into a night under the stars with another lively cocktail competition hosted by Barritt’s Ginger Beer, Fee Brothers and the Rum Renaissance team.  The crowd of cocktail aficionados, rum experts, journalists and a few lucky hotel guests were treated to a variety of creative drinks made by some of the industry’s top mixologists.

The rules to the competition were simple – create an original drink using rum, Barritts Ginger Beer and anything from the Fee Brothers line of bitters and syrups.  Eight local and national mixologists gave it their best, but in the end, Freddy Diaz from AlambiQ in Miami won the grand prize.

Here’s Freddy’s version of the Bermuda Triangle:

1 oz. Barritt’s Ginger Beer
1 1/2 oz. Dos Maderas 5+3
1/2 oz. Dos Maderas PX
1 oz. Donn’s Mix #1 (2:1) (2 Parts Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit, 1 Part Cinnamon Syrup)
1/2 oz. Boiron Lime Juice
1/2 oz. Simple Syrup
1/16 oz. (Small Dash) Fee Brothers Grapefruit Bitters
Garnish with a Thin Slice of Florida Grapefruit rolled and a cinnamon stick TIED TOGETHER with a channel knifed cucumber string.

Donn’s Mix #1:
2 Parts Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit, 1 Part Fee Brothers Cinnamon Syrup

Technique:
In a mixing Glass, add Ingredients.
Shake with Ice.
Strain Over Fresh Crushed Ice in a Tall Zombie.
Top with Barritt’s Ginger Beer and blend Ingredients together with a Bar Spoon.
Garnish.
