Our three-way Signature Drink Competition has come to an end and after judging a month’s worth of terrific cocktail entries, we have a winner.
____________________________________________
Last month we held a Signature Drink Competition along with our friends at The Floating Rum Shack and Rum Dood.com. We challenged our readers to create an original cocktail recipe that captured the mojo of each of our sites. The only rule was that the drinks had to be rum based.
We received plenty of interesting recipes. Some were new twists on classic cocktails and others were innovative concoctions made with cutting edge ingredients.
In the end, one drink stood out among the rest. I’m happy to announce that the winner of our first ever drinks competition is Adam Kanter, owner of Rum Bar in Philadelphia. His version of the Rum Connection Cocktail was deemed the top entry by our low-brow panel of judges, but don’t take our word for it, mix one up and let us know what you think.
The Rum Connection Cocktail
1 oz Cruzan Single Barrel Rum
1 oz Rothman & Winter Orchard Cherry Liqueur
.5 oz Fresh keylime juice
.25 oz simple syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 oz club soda
Shake all ingredients (except club soda) with ice. Strain into a collins glass, add 3 oz. of club soda and garnish with a cherry and lime twist.

Adam wins a bottle of Castries Peanut Rum Creme, Chairman’s Reserve Rum and a selection from Apppleton. A special thanks to our friends at Team Spirits Imports Company and Appleton Estate for hooking us up with the great prizes.
Thanks to everyone who entered and keep an eye out for our next contest.

With my humbleness fading… WOOHOO!!
Keylimes, Cherry, and Vanilla blended with an aged Virgin island rum seemed like a good definition of Rum Connection.

Adam, any chance this will make an appearance on the Rum Bar menu? I’d definitely make the trek downtown to try it.

I’m aiming to pop this on our menu in September. Not sure on our Keylime supplies that time of year, it might have to use standard limes.
